What do you guys think about fight sports & self defense? Will they work well in a street fight if you need to protect yourself?
Hey, any martial arts experts out there who could help me out. So I want to do Kickboxing but at the same time I also BJJ, I can't do them both even though I would love to but. I am mainly doing it to become a UFC or Onefc fighter on but also self defence
Any martial art can work. It all depends on you and how you train. I’ve done, boxing, karate, judo, muay thai and Japanese jūjutsu. Japanese Jūjutsu is made for warfare and the techniques are great for self-defense. Especially with aspects of Aikijūjutsu (not Aikido these are different arts).
Muay Thai is my base striking art.
Train very basics of punching, low kicks, and basic takedowns. But make sure you train those basics really hard. No need in some crazy head kicks, long boxing combos or complicated grappling techniques.

Why does a boxer,usually beat a karate man, you would think just the opposite??
Head movement in the street at night in poor visibility? You won't see the strikes coming
The problem is with combat sports is that is in a safe environment with rules, and opponents are matched up.
On the streets you have to be street smart, 1v1 Tyson is definitely scary, but on the street anything goes, there's no rules, your opponents isn't matched, you don't get to choose your opponent and or how many, weapons or no weapons.
So you can't really compare combat sports for street or self defend, they're two completely different things.
But obviously training is better than no training at all, but on the street you definitely need to be street smart.
I think that learning and using the lowest kicks from Muay Thai and Kickboxing to knees etc.
And the double leg take down from MMA to ground slam knockout on cement for K.O.
And the head movement and body movement from Boxing and MMA is best.
As long as you don't use many closed fist face punches or high kicks in street fight.
And as long as you have have trained the dirty moves of Krav Maga etc like eye gouging. Trachea striking. Vagus nerve striking. Groin striking. Weapons disarms etc.
And parkour and sprinting.
To run away when the odds get stupid in a one against too many fight. 😂
That is the best style.
someone who does 1000kicks daily is better than someone who does a little of everything but none at master
Also boxers have the best foot work so that should be on number 1 or 2
i dont think wrestling would help in a street fight. lifes not fair. imagine you wrestle with someone and his friend stabs you or something. stay on your feet, hold distance and throw punches or kicks
verbal jujitsu, deescalation first and if that doesn't work ,go to any of the ones on your list, will give you more protection than someone that doesn't have training

What about bjj?
This is a relastic review, which I respect. I still think, that the advantage a boxer has in the beginning of a fight, is superior. The first punch is much faster than any other sport on this list can do.
Best martial arts for self defense is gun fu

.What about Karate like Shotokan or Shito ryu?
4:25 True, but their stance is wider than kickboxing and Muay Thai, so they probably would be able to stuff them better
In my experience, hands are king for self defense but that is because of my body type. I'm short and stocky and it's difficult for me to land knees and elbows because I can really only land them in a clinch. Clinching and grappling are not ideal because it limits my vision if my opponent has friends with him. So I prefer 80% Boxing and 20% Gracie Combatives (BJJ) JUST in case I accidentally get taken down.
Also majority of self defense situations will be against some asshole who truly has no clue what they are doing. So a quick knockout if you have proficiency in boxing is very likely.
What about Wing Chan?
none are for self defence cant people understand? theres like kravmaga that when trained correctly with pressure u train against weapons like the streets … at least the kravmaga i train we build actual pressure and theres military there too
Boxing Hands. Muay Thai Kicks, Knees, Elbows, Clinch. Wrestling to prevent takedown. 2-3 No Gi Judo Throws Sprawl. BJJ last. Why cause if you have Multiple attackers you go with Boxing cause you need to have constant movement. Grappling only for 1:1 to end fight quick. I think Boxing and BJJ. I competed in Boxing, Kickboxing, Judo but I think Boxing is best. I am going to Thailand to train and eventually I will get back to BJJ but I got a black belt in Judo and I have beat the crap out of BJJ Purple belts when I was only a green belt in Judo
MMA is best because MMA =Boxing, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Wrestling, BJJ. But most fights end in 30 seconds or less due to break up so BOXING is best but Muay Thai is awesome if fight is in Kicking range.
